Two Way Radios

The modern two way has come along way since the days of children's walkie-talkies. Most have a range of up to two miles and a choice of up to ten communication channels, you can have as many radios as you have investigators. An essential piece of kit for your Investigation.

Teach the users how to use the radio,  and how to avoid pressing the 'call' button by mistake,

Establish some basic radio rules like only use when absolutely necessary, keep the message brief and to the point, never speak to closely to the radio itself as this will distort it.

Have basic call signs that are stuck to throughout the whole investigation such as, if your initials are TB you could use 'Tango Bravo' etc.  So an example would be if TB was calling somebody with initials PG you would say, "Tango Bravo to Papa Golf" the response from PG would be "Papa Golf go ahead" TB would then relay message.

Another way could be your control centre or person could be CR (control room) 'Charlie Romeo' you could have for example three groups all called PI (paranormal investigators) so your groups call signs would be 'Papa India 01'  'Papa India 02' 'Papa India 03' note the number 0 should be communicated as 'Zero'

Use communication methods such as

'Over' after you have finished your sentence and are waiting for a reply.

'Over and Out' when you have finished your sentence and no reply is needed.

'Answer Yes' is better than just saying yes as radios can distort the single word.

'Answer No' is better than the single word for same reasons.

'Attention Drawn' the next message passed by the sender will contain detail.

'Roger' The receiver acknowledges that the last transmission has been received and understood.

'So Far'  the caller is requesting conformation that the previous part of the message has been received and understood before proceeding with the rest of a lengthy message.

'ETA' Estimated time of arrival

'At Scene' caller has arrived at location.
